Online Consumer Complaint Filing Process

Consumer complaint India is the right of every consumer in India. A customer aggrieved by a violation of consumer rights can file a complaint both offline and online. Department of Consumer Affairs has launched an online site called INGRAM (Integrated Grievance Address Mechanism) for the redressal of consumer grievances.

Section 2(7) of the Consumer Protection Act India 2019 contains the statutory definition of the term 'consumer'. However, in general, a consumer is defined as someone who purchases goods or services for consideration through any means of the transaction both offline and online. The Consumer Protection Act of 1986 provides various legal rights and protections to consumers.

Under this law, a consumer can take a business or service provider to court with a formal complaint. An online customer complaint is known as a specific problem. If a business ignores a legal warning to correct a problem, a complaint is usually made. All necessary information and supporting documents must be submitted while filing the complaint. Consumer Courts in India provide instant legal advice and judgment to consumers.

Online Consumer Complaint Filing Process

In case of aforesaid violation of consumer rights or any other grievances, consumers can file an IRDA grievance portal online called INGRAM (Integrated Grievance Redress Mechanism) for redressal of their grievances.

This portal aims to resolve and handle customer complaints in an easy and hassle-free manner. A one-time registration is required to file a complaint. Go to the link for registration

The main reason for launching this consumer complaint online portal by the Department of Consumer Affairs is to create awareness and provide some form of advice to consumers regarding their rights and responsibilities. Consumer court online complaint is an easy and quick method.

Step 1: In the top right corner of the portal there is an option called 'User Login'. After clicking on user login, you have to enter details like name, gender, e-mail id, password, etc. to sign up.

Step 2: Log in to the portal using your User ID and Password, then click on 'Grievance Registration Form'.

Then you have to fill out the form along with your complaints along with necessary documents (if available) and submit it.

Step 3: After submitting a complaint using this portal, you will be assigned a unique docket number, and the complaints will be forwarded to the appropriate company/agency/regulator/ombudsman for immediate resolution. Once complaints are registered, you can track them through the Site by clicking the Track Your Complaint link.

If the consumer grievance is not satisfactorily resolved, he or she may approach the Consumer Grievance Commission/Forum. There is state wise consumer complaint number for the help of consumers. Every complaint reported through this portal will be forwarded to the appropriate company/agency for prompt resolution. The maximum time limit for reaching a logical resolution is 60 days.

Scope of Consumer Rights in India

(iv) the right to be heard and to ensure that the consumer's interests are given due consideration in the appropriate forum;

(v) the right to seek remedies against unfair trade practices or restrictive trade practices or unethical exploitation of consumers; And

(vi) right to consumer awareness;
